Part of our "The Best Family Friendly Bushwalks for Aussie Kids" series, we're bringing you the "Top 10 kid friendly bushwalks near Perth". 

All are within 90 minutes drive of Perth, can be accessed without a 4WD and all are, in full or in part, family friendly. Make sure you research your walk before you leave, to ensure that you're selecting the section that is most appropriate for your child's age.
      1. Kings Park and Botanic Garden - Distance varies. Located in the heart of Perth, this park offers stunning views of the city skyline and the Swan River, along with a variety of walking trails and playgrounds. Helpful tip: Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and snacks, and wear comfortable walking shoes. Check out the park's website for maps and trail guides.

      2. John Forrest National Park - 2.5km return. Located about a half-hour drive east of Perth, this park offers a variety of bushwalks, along with scenic picnic areas and waterfalls. Helpful tip: Bring a map or use a trail guide to navigate the area, and be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes and watch out for wildlife along the way.

      3. Lake Leschenaultia - 2km loop. Located about an hour's drive east of Perth, this beautiful lake offers a variety of walking trails and opportunities for swimming and picnicking. Helpful tip: Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and snacks, and be sure to check out the lake's website for maps and trail guides. Wear comfortable walking shoes and watch out for snakes in the summer months.

      4. Bold Park - Distance varies. Located in the western suburbs of Perth, this park offers a variety of walking trails, along with stunning views of the ocean and the city skyline. Helpful tip: Bring a map or use a trail guide to navigate the area, and be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes and watch out for uneven terrain.

      5. Rottnest Island - Varies. Located just off the coast of Perth, this island offers a variety of walking trails, along with opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and bike riding. Helpful tip: Take the ferry over to the island and be sure to check the ferry schedule for return times. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and snacks, and wear comfortable walking shoes.

      6. Yanchep National Park - Varies. Located about an hour's drive north of Perth, this park offers a variety of bushwalks, along with opportunities for picnicking and wildlife spotting. Helpful tip: Bring a map or use a trail guide to navigate the area, and be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes and watch out for snakes and other wildlife.

      7. Serpentine National Park - 4km loop. Located about an hour's drive south of Perth, this park offers a variety of bushwalks, along with stunning views of the Serpentine Falls. Helpful tip: Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Be sure to watch out for slippery rocks near the waterfall.

      8. Lesmurdie Falls - 1.5km return. Located in the Perth Hills, this waterfall offers a variety of walking trails, along with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Helpful tip: Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Be sure to watch out for uneven terrain.

      9. Whiteman Park - Varies. Located about a half-hour drive northeast of Perth, this park offers a variety of walking trails, along with opportunities for picnicking and wildlife spotting. Helpful tip: Bring a map or use a trail guide to navigate the area, and be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks. Wear sturdy shoes and watch out for uneven terrain.

      10. Ellis Brook Valley - 2.5km return. Located in the Perth Hills, this park offers a variety of walking trails, along with stunning views of the city and the surrounding landscape. Helpful tip: Wear sturdy shoes and bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Be sure to watch out for snakes in the summer months.
